Sunshine Cottage is a nonprofit school in San Antonio, Texas, founded in 1947 by Dela White whose daughter was born with profound hearing loss. The school serves children who are deaf or hard of hearing in an inclusive setting with children with typical hearing.
At Sunshine Cottage, children with hearing loss become part of a community centered on enriching lives and improving listening, language and speech. Every child is embraced by their dedicated staff and provided with the necessary skills to learn in a rich auditory-oral environment. All children and their families benefit from the outstanding educational environment and strong support system spanning their Sunshine Cottage experience.
The goal of Sunshine Cottage is to provide children who are deaf or hard of hearing the auditory/oral foundation to become independent and active participants of the hearing world. These children utilize state-of-the-art hearing technology to develop listening and spoken language to communicate naturally and effectively without the use of sign language.
In partnership with Sunshine Cottage leadership, the Burnam | Gray team is working to help the organization build capacity by developing high level strategic goals focused on fundraising including a diversified 2019 annual fundraising plan to move the organization to the next level of fundraising. We are working together on a “case for support” that provides Sunshine Cottage with a text library for corporations, foundations, and individual grant proposals, while reviewing and researching additional sources of grant funding.
Additionally, Burnam | Gray provides one-on-one guidance with staff in creating diversified fundraising strategies, execution of an annual fundraising plan, and individual giving and donor outreach strategies.
