Alamo Heights United Methodist Church (AHUMC) is one of the oldest and largest mainline Protestant churches in the San Antonio area. They are on a mission to partner with God to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth by making disciples of Jesus Christ. As one of the most well-recognized churches in San Antonio, Alamo Heights United Methodist Church has relied on its historic brand and presence to attract people.
The church recognized a growing need to better articulate how they serve the community while attracting the next generation of church members. The church turned to the team of Burnam | Gray for help in the Fall of 2017. We assessed their current internal and external communications and equipped staff with the foundational communication tools to boost engagement.
Our work extended through late Spring of 2018 and included staff surveying and focus groups to determine areas of strength and opportunity. Burnam | Gray worked alongside their team to better engage congregants through clear and concise messaging. We developed a communications staff manual with policies and processes so that the team has a strong foundation in order to move into innovative digital strategies. We also facilitated the hiring process for a new Director of Communications position and worked alongside the Director for two months to ensure a smooth transition.
As part of our partnership with Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, we helped the leadership team determine next steps for internal communications, congregational care, and external communications while ensuring procedures were in place to help the church fulfill its calling.
